Ted Turner’s daughter builds a $1.2 million LEED certified 6,200 square foot mansion

by lars on October 5, 2006

The New York Times writes up one of the first LEED certified residences in the US, and the first in Georgia.

When the 6,200-square-foot, $1.2 million house is completed at the end of the month, after a year of construction, it will be the first in Georgia, and one of a handful in the country, certified by the United States Green Building Council as a LEED residence. The acronym stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and the designation means that the house has met that organization’s exacting standards on environmental measures, including site development, water and energy efficiency, materials and indoor environmental quality.

This mansion even has its own web site!

I’m actually shocked by the fact that this is only the first LEED house in Georgia! I thought LEED was more widespread than that now. I just hope people don’t get the idea that they have to spend $1.2 million in order to have a green house.
