Unfortunately, it’s looking like our modern society no longer affords us the pleasure of drinking a hot cup of coffee in our own homes these days. Not that the “To-Go-Cup” for coffee is anything new, but drive up windows at Starbucks and other joints where you get your java to go are a scary sign of the times. This means more and more disposable coffee cups getting picked up and then tossed away. An evil cousin of the plastic water bottle? Ugh! More waste in the landfills, cluttering up the highways, etc.
Not to fret, my caffeine addicted friends! There is hope! Looks like Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and International Paper have decided to develop a new disposable coffee cup that uses renewable resources and has less of an environmental impact. The secret of the Ecotainer™ cup is that it uses a lining made from corn instead of petrochemicals. After use, the Ecotainer™ cup will break down into water, carbon dioxide and organic matter, making it suitable for your compost pile. Also, it’s appropriate for a variety of hot beverages, not just coffee!

Just a little note about your cups. Eco friendly is great, but when you put
hot coffee into the cups it leaks out of the bottom. It must be heating the glue,
causing the coffee to leak. I have had many cups that leak and would like you
to please resolve this. I only drink green mountain coffee and i would like to
enjoy the whole cup of coffee that i purchased.

I haven’t actually seen them in use anywhere yet or used the cup myself.
Anyone else out there have any good or bad experiences with these cups?
I agree it would totally suck to have dripping hot coffee leaking from your cup.

The store that i buy my coffee from just got in new cups. The rep from green mt.
said they must of had a bad batch. I use two cups to prevent the coffee from leaking
all over my desk. Well guess what the coffee still leaks through BOTH cups.
I wish someone from the Green mountain would please improve the glue used on these
cups. Another customer had the whole bottom of the cup fall out spilling all his coffee
in his car. The glue used on these cups is attrocious. PLEASE USE A BETTER GLUE.

Same here. We just switched at work from Ritazza to Green Mountain and the coffee is awesome but the cups are horrible. Every one leaks when the coffee is hot (coffee being hot is a good thing). They leave rings on my desk and the rim around the top is flimsy on the cup so that it indents and you get leaks from there as well. Great coffee….horrible cups.

Geez people! The solution is obvious. Use a re-useable travel mug and stop eating up our precious resources. (Last I heard, trees were used to produce paper cups - not just petroleum.)
