A battery startup company that is a spinoff from MIT says it has come up with a lithium ion battery that is safer and more powerful. GM says it is evaluating the technology for an upcoming Saturn plug-in hybrid.
I’m starting to get excited. I think battery technology is getting to the point that we’re going to see a lot of cool stuff in the automobile industry in the next few years.
Hopefully small players like Phoenix Motorcars will spur the big guys into action so that we’ll have some mainstream solutions soon that make sense for the average car driver.
I live in Dallas, and we have some serious air quality problems here. If 10 or 20 percent of drivers could switch to some kind of electric or hybrid vehicle that was reasonably priced and worked well, it would make a real difference.
