For all you lovers of food out there, here’s a book that serves as a guide to eating well while protecting the planet: The Ethical Gourmet: How to Enjoy Great Food That is Humanely Raised, Sustainable, Nonendangered, and That Replenishes the Earth.
This book will help you lean how to avoid wasteful packaging, unethical companies, unhealthy food, and will help you to buy foods that actually benefit the people who grow/produce them for our consumption. You can read an excellent review of the Ethical Gourmet here.
I’m sure that this is in the book, but my 2 cents is to purchase as much locally grown food as possible. Supporting local businesses, farmers, etc. helps keeps your community vibrant and healthy economically, too! When you go out to eat, see where their veggies come from. My friends at a local organic farm supply veggies to a number of restaurants in my area, so I also try to support the restaurants who buy their greens. Do some research and you can make a big difference on your local economy.
