You can do these on a long weekend, make a trip on a bike trail or country roads to a nearby location. I did one of these last year... travelled 70 miles from my house (left on bike... no other vehicles) and spent a Saturday night in a hotel at the remote location. Although I didn't arrive in Paris or New York, I can report that the trip itself was much more enjoyable than if I took a car or airplane. What about a bicycle tour?
