The country of New Guinea is home to a rich collection of tropical wildlife. To further prove this fact, scientists recently discovered roughly 40 new species of plants and animals here. In a 2 week long trek, an international group of scientists explored the Foja Mountains to see what they could find. What they discovered is weird and varied, and it seems like it’s just the tip of the iceberg. These unique species, many of them endemic to this particular region of the country, are found in what is known as a sky island. This is an isolated and elevated area of land that is basically isolated from the rest of the land mass due to its geographic location and conditions. Read more about this amazing find here.
